Terrorists Storm Fulani Settlement In Kwara, Kill One, Abduct Several Residents

Ilorin, Kwara State– Suspected terrorists on Monday evening attacked a Fulani settlement in Sodo, Lafiagi axis of Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one resident and abducting several others in a fresh wave of insecurity in the region.
Sources familiar with the incident told Afrika Eyes that the attackers invaded the community at about evening hours, unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents, most of whom are Fulani settlers.
According to the sources, the assailants, who were heavily armed, stormed the settlement and began shooting sporadically, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
“They came in the evening and started shooting. Everyone ran for their lives. Some people were not lucky; they were taken away by the gunmen,” one of the sources said.

In a video obtained by Afrika Eyes, some of the gunmen were seen riding on motorcycles, a method commonly used by armed groups operating in rural communities to carry out swift attacks and escape without resistance.
A photograph also seen by Afrika Eyes showed the lifeless body of one of the victims lying in his room, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
Local sources identified the affected area as a vulnerable settlement with limited security presence, making it an easy target for criminal elements.
As of the time of this report, security agencies in Kwara State have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, while efforts to reach police authorities for comments were unsuccessful.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Kwara North, particularly in Edu and Patigi local government areas, where residents have repeatedly called on the government and security agencies to intensify surveillance and protect rural communities from recurring attacks.
Residents are now living in fear, with many reportedly abandoning their homes following the attack.
