Terrorists Kill At Least 15 Villagers, Injure Many, Abduct Several In Daylight Attack On Katsina Community Months After ‘Peace Deal’
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday, has thrown the rural community into mourning as residents lamented the worsening insecurity in the area despite claims of peace deals between authorities and armed groups operating in the state.
Katsina State– At least 15 residents have been killed, several others abducted and many injured after terrorists invaded Falale village in Daddara District of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State in a deadly broad daylight attack.
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday, has thrown the rural community into mourning as residents lamented the worsening insecurity in the area despite claims of peace deals between authorities and armed groups operating in the state.
Afrika Eyes gathered that heavily armed terrorists stormed the village in the afternoon, opening fire on residents and causing panic as people fled for safety.
However, it was gathered that the attackers moved through the village unchallenged, shooting at civilians, abducting several residents and leaving many others with gunshot wounds.
A disturbing video obtained by Afrika Eyes shows the aftermath of the attack, with bodies of victims laid out on a bare floor.
The corpses were arranged side by side while leaves were placed over their faces.
In the footage, grieving residents surrounded the bodies, wailing and calling on authorities to visit the scene and witness the devastation caused by the attack.
Locals said the community has repeatedly suffered attacks from terrorists despite recent claims that some local government chairmen in Katsina State had negotiated peace agreements with the armed groups.
Residents expressed frustration that the supposed peace deal has failed to stop the violent incursions into their communities.
A security alert platform, Bakatsine, also confirmed the attack, describing the incident as another tragic example of the worsening security crisis in the region.
“In this broad daylight, they killed at least 15 residents, many others were injured and several abducted in the attack on Falale village, Daddara district in Jibia LGA of Katsina State,” Bakatsine said.
It further questioned the effectiveness of the widely publicised peace arrangements with the terrorists.
“How are communities still suffering such devastating incursions despite the supposed peace deal in the state?” Bakatsine added.
Jibia Local Government Area, which borders Niger Republic, has for years remained one of the flashpoints of terrorist activities in Katsina State, with communities frequently experiencing raids, abductions and killings.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
