Terrorists Invade Three Schools In Oyo, Kill Assistant Headmaster, Abduct Principal, Teachers, Pupils

The affected schools were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.

Ibadan, Oyo State– Terrorists attacked three schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, killing an assistant headmaster and abducting several teachers and pupils in one of the most daring assaults on school communities in recent times.

The affected schools were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.

Punch reports that residents said the gunmen stormed the communities in broad daylight on Friday morning, moving freely from one school to another while shooting sporadically and causing chaos among pupils, teachers and residents.

The incident, which occurred around 9am shortly after pupils gathered for morning assembly and school activities commenced, threw the entire area into confusion as frightened children and teachers fled into nearby bushes for safety.

Eyewitnesses explained that the attackers arrived on motorcycles in large numbers and operated in a coordinated manner, raiding multiple schools almost simultaneously without resistance.

According to residents, the terrorists began shooting immediately after entering the communities, forcing terrified pupils and teachers to scamper for safety.

“They came in large numbers on motorcycles and started shooting immediately. Everybody ran. They moved from one school to another within minutes,” a resident said.

The Assistant Headmaster of L.A. Primary School, identified as Joel Adesiyan, was killed during the attack.

Witnesses said Adesiyan was attempting to escape through a window when he was shot dead by the attackers.

“The assistant head teacher was trying to escape through the window, but he was shot dead,” another resident said.

In a separate incident during the attack, an okada rider was also killed after unknowingly riding into the scene and getting caught in the crossfire.

Residents said the terrorists abducted the principal of Community Grammar School, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, alongside five teachers and an unspecified number of pupils.

Sources said the assailants moved quickly between classrooms while firing gunshots to instill fear before whisking away their victims.

“The principal and five teachers were kidnapped. They also took several pupils,” a resident added.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of abducted pupils remained unclear.

However, residents expressed fears that the number could be high, particularly from the secondary school where the attackers reportedly spent more time moving from class to class.

Sources further disclosed that the terrorists used the principal’s vehicle to transport some of the abducted victims out of the community after the attack.

The vehicle was reportedly driven through difficult terrain while the assailants attempted to escape from the area.

However, residents said the vehicle later developed a mechanical fault, forcing the attackers to abandon it.

A resident explained that the terrorists subsequently set the vehicle ablaze before fleeing into nearby bushes with their captives.

“The schools are very close to each other, so the attack affected both at the same time. They used the principal’s car to move some of the abducted victims, but when the vehicle could not continue, they abandoned it and set it ablaze,” the source said.

The burning of the vehicle reportedly intensified panic across the communities, with many residents fleeing their homes over fears that the gunmen could return for another attack.
