Terrorists Invade Hometown Of Immediate Past Chief Press Secretary To Kwara State Governor, Kill Local Hunter, Attack Another Community

Ilorin,  Kwara State- Suspected terrorists have killed a local hunter, identified as Habeeb Adeniyi, popularly known as Adeyi, during an attack on Alabe community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack occurred amid growing security concerns in parts of Kwara South, where armed bandits have reportedly intensified incursions into rural communities.

Meanwhile, the attacks occurred in communities within the hometown area of a former Chief Press Secretary to a former governor of Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye.

Sources who spoke to Afrika Eyes said the deceased hunter was killed on Saturday and buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.

According to one of the sources, Adeyi was on his way to Idera community when he encountered the terrorists.

The source explained that local hunters had earlier received intelligence that armed bandits fleeing from the Budo-Are forest were heading towards the Alabe axis.

“Some hunters were chasing the bandits from the Budo-Are forest. Meanwhile, they alerted the hunters in Alabe that the bandits were moving towards their axis,” the source said.

“So, the hunters in Alabe also traced the movement of the bandits, but they were unable to locate them. They eventually returned home.

“Meanwhile, Adeyi had gone to farm and had dropped his local gun. Unexpectedly, the bandits came towards him and shot him dead.”

The source further disclosed that Adeyi was not alone at the time of the attack.

“The hunters were two, but the second hunter escaped. Adeyi was caught unaware and could not defend himself when the bandits suddenly appeared and opened fire on him,” the source added.

The latest attack has created fears among residents of communities in Ifelodun,  Irepodun, Isin and Ekiti Local Government Area, a region that has witnessed repeated attacks and incursions by armed groups operating from forests bordering neighbouring states.

Meanwhile, suspected bandits also invaded Abayan community in the same local government area on Saturday night but were successfully repelled by local security operatives and community defenders.

According to residents, the armed men entered the community at night in what appeared to be an attempt to carry out abductions.

“They entered Abayan yesterday night, but they were chased out. The bandits were unable to kidnap anyone,” another source told Afrika Eyes.

Meanwhile, residents have repeatedly called on security agencies and the Kwara State Government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities across Ifelodun Local Government Area, warning that the continued activities of terrorists and bandits could further endanger lives and livelihoods if urgent action is not taken.
