Terrorists Abduct Housewife, 5-Month-Old Baby Near Kwara NYSC Camp
According to residents, the woman was seized alongside her infant by armed men suspected to be terrorists during an attack on the community.
Ilorin, Kwara State– Terrorists have reportedly abducted a housewife and her five-month-old child in Wodata Zambufu community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the incident occurred on Friday in the community, which is located barely 10 kilometres from the Kwara State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Yikpata.
According to residents, the woman was seized alongside her infant by armed men suspected to be terrorists during an attack on the community.
Afrika Eyes had reported that terrorists who abducted a woman from Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have demanded a ransom of N20 million from her family, threatening to kill her if the money is not paid within a short time.
An audio recording obtained by Afrika Eyes captured the moment the terrorists were negotiating with the victim’s family.
In the recording, the abductors called one of their gang members who understands the Yoruba language to enable smoother communication with the family.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the victim is a trader who was kidnapped while travelling within Kwara State.
Since her abduction, the family has reportedly been under intense pressure as the terrorists continue to issue threats while demanding a ransom far beyond the family’s means.
In the audio recording, the terrorists were heard asking how much money the family had been able to raise so far.
In response, a family member informed them that only N2.5 million had been gathered. The abductors, however, rejected the amount and insisted on the full payment of N20 million.
The terrorists reportedly warned that failure to pay the demanded sum before the stated deadline would lead to the killing of the victim.
However, despite repeated appeals by the family during the conversation, one of the terrorists dismissed their pleas, making it clear that emotional appeals would not influence their decision.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has publicly appealed to Nigerians for assistance, saying they have exhausted all available resources.
According to the family, they have sold virtually all their belongings and properties and were only able to raise about N3 million in total, an amount still far below the ransom being demanded.
The family said the situation has left them devastated and helpless, as they lack the financial capacity to meet the terrorists’ demand.
They pleaded with well-meaning Nigerians, philanthropists, and relevant authorities to come to their aid in order to save the victim’s life.
Kwara State has in recent times witnessed a surge in kidnapping incidents, earning it a reputation as a hotspot for abductions. Both young and old residents have fallen victim to criminal gangs operating across different parts of the state.
Recently, two traditional rulers were kidnapped in Kwara State. While one of the monarchs reportedly regained freedom after a ransom was paid, the second monarch remains in captivity alongside his son, who was abducted with him.
In another related incident, some staff members of the Kwara State Ministry of Works were abducted in December last year at Owa Onire, Isin local government areas of Kwara State.
As of now, they are still being held by the terrorists. According to their families, the abductors have insisted on negotiating only with the Kwara State Government.
The families of the abducted ministry workers have accused the Kwara State Government, under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of abandoning them and failing to take decisive action to secure the release of their loved ones.
