Tension Mounts In Rivers State As Policeman, OSPAC Member Feared Dead

Two persons were reportedly gunned down in Omuma LGA following shootings that erupted in the area.

Portharcourt, Rivers State– Tensions are high in the Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State following the reported deaths of a policeman and a member of the Omuma Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC).

Earlier this morning, there were widespread protests across the 23 local government areas of the state following the expiration of the three-year tenure of the elected chairmen of LGAs and ward councillors.

Reports indicate that alleged security personnel have been involved in shootings at the Port Harcourt City LGA Council Secretariat, as well as in Obio/Akpor, Emohua, Eleme, and Khana LGAs, reportedly by unidentified persons.

It was gathered that two persons were reportedly gunned down in Omuma LGA following shootings that erupted in the area.

According to a  source, police officers attached with a local politician were reported to have fired the first shots at vigilante members from one of the groups involved in the clash at Omuma council secretariat. In retaliation, the victim’s associates then engaged the security personnel.
