Tension At Kwara Poly As Ex-Student Killed In Suspected Cult Clash

Ilorin,  Kwara State– A former student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, identified as Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, has been killed in a violent clash allegedly involving rival cult groups on the institution’s campus on Tuesday.

Olawale, a former Civil Engineering student with matriculation number ND/20/CEC/FT/206, was reportedly attacked during a confrontation said to involve ex-students linked to various cult groups who returned to the campus area.

Afrika Eyes gathered  that panic spread around the Polytechnic community as the confrontation escalated, forcing security operatives to move in.

Meanwhile, several suspects believed to have participated in the attack were said to have been arrested and handed over to the police.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Halimat Garba,  confirmed the incident, she described the killing as a regrettable act that undermines the institution’s commitment to peace and academic stability.

“We deeply regret the loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” Garba stated.

She added that the school’s security unit responded swiftly through internal intelligence, leading to the arrest of suspects now in police custody for further investigation.

Garba stressed that the management is working closely with security agencies to ensure justice is served and to prevent further breaches of peace within the institution.

According to her, normalcy has since returned to the campus, and academic activities have resumed without disruption.

“The Polytechnic remains vigilant against any form of violence or cult-related activities. We urge students and members of the community to report suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities,” she said.
