Suspected Killers Of Anambra Lawmaker Escape Police Custody
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were assisting the police in an operation to arrest a receiver and recover stolen vehicles linked to the crime.
Awka, Anambra State– The Anambra State Police Command has launched an extensive manhunt for two suspects linked to the murder of late Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly, after they escaped from custody.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that disciplinary actions have been ordered against officers responsible for the escape.
According to Ikenga, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu immediately deployed operational and intelligence units to recapture the suspects.
“He has directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to their escape and disciplinary measures for the negligent officers,” Ikenga stated.

However, during the operation, the suspects managed to flee, while the receiver was apprehended and two suspected stolen vehicles were recovered.
The police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on criminal elements in the state, assuring the public that the escaped suspects will be rearrested and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the officers found culpable for the security breach are expected to face disciplinary measures.
