Jos, Plateau State– A suspected kidnapper, identified as Umar Adam, who allegedly collected N1.5 million in ransom from the family of two minors he abducted, has pleaded for mercy from the government following his arrest.

Adam reportedly kidnapped a boy and a girl from a family in Plateau State, initially demanding a ransom of N20 million.

However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to N1.5 million, which was paid by the victims’ family to secure their release.

The suspect was apprehended last month by vigilant residents of the NEPA community in Jos North Local Government Area.

Adam made the plea while being paraded alongside other suspects at the state police command on Friday, September 6.

The suspect claimed it was his first involvement in the kidnapping.

“I kidnapped two teenagers and kept them in an unfinished building. After collecting N1.5 million in ransom, I was on my way to release them to their families when I was suddenly caught,” he explained.

“This is my first time committing kidnapping. I beg the government to have mercy on me. It was a mistake, and I promise never to do it again. I am pleading for the government’s forgiveness.”
