Makurdi, Benue State– Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have killed a 45-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP), Zaki Tali Tyosoo, in Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the attack occurred on Sunday, September 29, 2024, around 2 p.m., while Tyosoo was working on his farm along Tse Tse Ukum road in Mbachohon Council Ward.

Tyosoo, who hailed from Tse Gerbe in Mbachohon, had been displaced from his village due to ongoing conflict.

He had been living at the Agagbe IDPs camp in Gwer West LGA with his family prior to the fatal attack.

According to Ibaah Jacob, a former manager of the Agagbe IDP camp, the victim was accompanied by his second wife when the gunmen, believed to be armed infiltrators, launched the attack.

“He was displaced from his village in Tse Gerbe, but with his farm close to Agagbe town and facing severe hunger in his polygamous family, he chose to cultivate the land. The farm is less than a kilometer from Agagbe,” he said.

He further recounted that the deceased’s second wife, 25-year-old Mrs. Tyosoo Dorcas, explained that while she and her husband were working on the farm, about 10 armed men carrying guns and machetes suddenly appeared.

Jacob added that the woman described how the men opened fire on her husband, chased him, and, after he fell, brutally hacked him to death with machetes.

The ex-camp manager confirmed that the body of the deceased has been recovered and brought to the Agagbe camp where his family is currently taking refuge.
