Sowore Accuses DSS DG Tosin Ajayi Of Using Agency Funds To Recruit Trolls, Says Intimidation Will Not Silence Resistance
The activist declared that no amount of intimidation, false prosecution, judicial manipulation, or online attacks would stop what he described as resistance against oppression in Nigeria.
Abuja, Nigeria- Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, of allegedly using agency funds to recruit online trolls in a bid to impress President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and demonstrate political loyalty.
Sowore made this known in a statement posted on Thursday evening, where he claimed that the DSS boss was sponsoring coordinated propaganda efforts against critics of the government.
The activist declared that no amount of intimidation, false prosecution, judicial manipulation, or online attacks would stop what he described as resistance against oppression in Nigeria.
According to Sowore, Nigerians deserve a nation governed by justice, accountability, freedom, and dignity rather than fear and repression.
“Today, I was made aware that DSS DG Tosin Ajayi is spending @officialdssng agency funds to recruit trolls, desperate to impress Tinubu @officialabat and prove his loyalty,” Sowore said.
“But history is full of @OfficialDSSNG and @PoliceNG security chiefs who used their offices to prop up oppression, abuse citizens, and dehumanize Nigerians, only to end in disgrace or irrelevance.”
The former presidential candidate further alleged that successive DSS leaderships under past Nigerian administrations had been used for political repression and intimidation of citizens.
“From the era of Obasanjo to @GEJonathan and @MBuhari, we have seen @OfficialDSSNG chiefs deployed for dirty political jobs, human rights violations, intimidation, and repression,” he stated.
“None escaped the consequences of aligning themselves against the Nigerian people.”
Sowore referenced several former DSS Directors-General, accusing them of abusing power during their time in office.
“There was former DSS DG Col. Kayode Areh (rtd), who became notorious during the Obasanjo era; eventually, his belongings were thrown out of his Lagos residence (he was recently rehabilitated with an ambassadorial appointment),” he alleged.
“Under Umaru Yar’Adua came another, Afakriya Aduwa Gadzama, whose influence quickly faded.”
He also mentioned former DSS Director-General Ita Ekpeyong, who served during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Under @GEJonathan, Ita Ekpeyong faced a dramatic security crisis at his residence amid corruption allegations,” Sowore said.
“Ekpeyong deployed one of the most notorious @OfficialDSSNG spokespersons, Marilyn Ogar, but we all know how it all ended.”
The activist also took aim at former DSS Director-General Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“@MBuhari came; with Yusuf Bichi. Controversy and scandal equally dogged his tenure,” Sowore alleged.
“During his tenure, his soccer-playing son @AbbaBichi and wife lost all the wealth he had illegally acquired, they stole and frittered all, and he is today a nonentity.”
Sowore insisted that the current DSS Director-General would also eventually leave office and be remembered for his actions.
“Tosin Ajayi, too, will pass. Offices are temporary, power is fleeting, but the damage done against citizens in pursuit of political loyalty remains part of history’s judgment,” he said.
The activist further maintained that intimidation tactics would not suppress dissenting voices in Nigeria.
“No amount of intimidation, troll recruitment, false prosecution, or judicial manipulation will silence resistance. Nigerians deserve a country governed by justice, freedom, accountability, and dignity—not fear,” Sowore added.
Using the hashtag “#RevolutionNow,” the activist declared that he was prepared for any confrontation arising from his criticism of the DSS and the Federal Government.
“#RevolutionNow am ready for all of them,” he wrote.
Sowore also stated that a longtime associate identified as Chucks Akunna was being used by the DSS leadership to coordinate public relations campaigns aimed at portraying the agency positively in court-related matters.
“By the way, the guy in these photos is a long-time friend, @Chucksakunna, who DG DSS Tosin Adeola Ajayi sends to coordinate the @OfficialDSSNG court PR cases, paying him handsomely to portray DSS as a lovely patriotic agency,” Sowore claimed.
“But @OfficialDSSNG is evil agency set up to destroy your dreams of free citizenship.”
