Seven Abducted, Three Children Rescued After Gunmen Attack Bus In Kwara

Ilori, Kwara State – The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a disturbing case of abduction along the Obbo-Aiyegunle/Osi Road in Ekiti Local Government Area, where armed gunmen reportedly intercepted a Sienna bus and forcefully abducted seven individuals, including the driver.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The bus, bearing registration number FFA 50 XD, was en route to Offa from Abuja when it was ambushed by a group of about eight armed hoodlums.
In a swift response, police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, mobilized to the scene.
The Sienna vehicle was recovered and moved to the nearest police formation. A coordinated search operation led to the rescue of three children, aged between 2 and 12 years, who were found abandoned in the nearby bush.
“One of the rescued children was able to provide crucial information about her guardian, enabling us to reunite all three children with their relatives,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement released on Sunday.
The statement further noted that the Kwara State Command has launched a discreet investigation and intensified search efforts to rescue the remaining kidnapped victims.
“Our operatives are working around the clock through intelligence gathering and sustained bush combing operations,” said the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips. “We remain fully committed to the safety and protection of all residents of Kwara State.”
The Command is appealing to members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring the safe return of the victims.
“We urge anyone with credible information to contact the nearest police station or use our established emergency channels,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi added.
However, the police have assured that updates will be provided as investigations continue and rescue efforts progress.
