Abuja, Nigeria – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, claiming she is being punished for rejecting his alleged advances.
Speaking on ARISE TV on Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio persistently contacted her on WhatsApp and that she has evidence to support her claims.
She further stated that her husband is a witness and challenged the Department of State Services (DSS) to retrieve their conversations for verification.
Following the controversy, the Senate referred Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review.
The committee, chaired by Senator Neda Imaseun (LP, Edo South), has been given two weeks to submit its findings.
The decision was reached after a voice vote by lawmakers, emphasising the need to maintain parliamentary decorum.
The Kogi lawmaker has also filed a N100.3 billion fundamental human rights lawsuit against Akpabio.
The dispute between the two intensified after she discovered that her Senate seat was changed without her consent, leading to a heated exchange in the chamber.
The Senate leadership has yet to officially respond to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations.
However, the unfolding situation has generated a public debate over internal tensions and gender-related issues within Nigeria’s legislative body.
