Senate Committee Recommends Six-Month Suspension Of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, Stops Salaries
If approved by the Senate, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office will be locked, and she will be barred from accessing the National Assembly premises.
Abuja, Nigeria– The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct has recommended a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged violations of Senate rules.
According to the committee’s report, read by its Chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen, the suspension is set to take effect from March 6, 2025.
If approved by the Senate, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office will be locked, and she will be barred from accessing the National Assembly premises.
Her salaries, along with those of her legislative aides, will be withheld.
The recommendation also prohibits the Kogi Central lawmaker from representing Nigeria in any official capacity during the suspension period.
However, the committee suggested that she could submit a written apology for possible reconsideration.
The Senate is expected to deliberate and vote on the recommendation, which, if upheld, would strip her of all legislative privileges for the duration of the suspension.
