Saraki Announces Engr. Kale Kawu As PDP Consensus Governorship Candidate In Kwara After APC Picks Speaker Danladi
According to him, the party resolved to unite behind a single candidate in order to strengthen its chances at the polls and present a formidable front against the APC.
Abuja, Nigeria– Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the forthcoming 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
Saraki made the announcement on Saturday, barely 24 hours after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) declared the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Danladi, as the winner of the party’s governorship primary election held on Friday
In a statement released on Saturday, Saraki disclosed that the decision to adopt Engr. Kale Kawu followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and leading governorship aspirants within the PDP in Kwara State.
According to him, the party resolved to unite behind a single candidate in order to strengthen its chances at the polls and present a formidable front against the APC.
“I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” Saraki said.
“That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.”
The former Senate President also commended other aspirants who agreed to step down for the consensus arrangement, describing their actions as a demonstration of loyalty, unity and commitment to the party’s collective interest.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus,” he added.
“It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory.”
Saraki further urged PDP members, delegates and supporters across the state to conduct themselves peacefully during the party’s governorship primaries scheduled to hold on Sunday.
“I wish all our members, delegates, and teeming supporters a successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries,” he said.
The announcement comes amid heightened political activities in Kwara State following the APC governorship primary election, where the party reportedly produced Speaker Danladi as its candidate for the next gubernatorial contest.
