Police Arrest Man For Killing Brother Over N270,000 Debt In Kano

Kano State– Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested one Magaji Yallo for allegedly killing his brother to evade a N270,000 debt in the Minjibir Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the fleeing suspect was arrested following sustained efforts involving intelligence-led technical operations.

In a statement on Thursday, July 25, 2024, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the command, reported that the suspect attacked his brother, Gausu Umar Sadau, a 35-year-old, with dangerous weapons.

He said that the suspect attackedSadau’s leg vein, among other injuries, and then fled the scene.

Kiyawa stated that Yallo and some accomplices attacked his brother, Gausu Umar Sadau, with dangerous weapons after luring him to a location in Minjibir under the pretext that he was going to pay him the sum of N270,000 he owed him (the deceased).

The statement read, “On 10/08/2018 at about 01:00pm, a report was received from a resident of Kunya Village in Minjibir LGA of Kano State that one Magaji Yallo, ‘m’, 38 years old of the same address and some others, attacked his brother Gausu Umar Sadau, ‘m’, 35 years old with dangerous weapons and cuts his leg vein including other parts of his body and ran away. As a result, the victim sustained fatal injuries.

“On receipt of the report, the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was certified d@ad by a medical doctor. On preliminary investigation, two of the culprits were arrested namely; (i) Rabiu Sarki Lota, ‘m’, (ii) Nasiru Adamu Namade, ‘m’, all of the same address, and were charged to court for offences of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

“After review of cases under investigation by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, he raised a combined team of detectives and directed that the principal suspect be trail and arrested.

“On 15/07/2024, sustained follow-up coupled with intelligence-led technical operations led to the arrest of the principal suspect; Magaji Yallo, ‘m’, after five years, eleven months and four days, that is two thousand, one hundred and sixty (2160) days after the incident.

“On discreet Investigation, the suspect confessed that they lured the victim to Wailari Quarters in Minjibir LGA, Kano State under the pretext that he was going to pay him his money, the sum of two hundred and seventy thousand naira (N270,000:00) he owed him, and thereafter killed him

“The arrested suspect confessed to the crime and has been charged to Magistrate Court Number 34 Nomand-sland Kano for prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police reassures the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and bringing perpetrators of crimes to justice,” he added.
