Police Arrest Eight Armed Robbery Suspects, Including Female Gang Member, In Benue
The suspects were allegedly involved in terrorizing Makurdi-Lafia road users in recent times.
Makurdi, Benue State- Operatives of the Nigerian police on Monday arrested eight suspected armed robbers, including a woman, in Benue State.
The suspects were allegedly involved in terrorizing Makurdi-Lafia road users in recent times.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, the breakthrough came after intelligence led to the capture of the gang leader, 29-year-old Terhemba Dabo, who had been on the police’s wanted list. Dabo, after his arrest, directed officers to the gang’s hideout, where seven other members were apprehended.
“Operatives of Benue State Police Command arrested the suspected leader of the vicious highway robbers along Makurdi-Lafia road on 02/12/2024 at about 1000 hrs following intelligence gathered.
“Terhemba Dabo ‘m’ AKA Kough, 29 years old, of Udei, Guma Local Government Area, has been on the wanted list of the police until information was gathered that the said suspect had been in his hideout around the International Market area, where he was arrested.”
He identified the suspects as, Kwaghve Asemapav, Aondonenga Awarga, Nongun Mbakuugh, Nomsoo Rapheal, Kpaver Godwin, Joseph Jimeshio, and Desen Kaashima ‘f’, all of Udei town.
Meanwhile, items recovered from the suspects to include: one (1) G-3 rifle, three (3) pairs of camouflage uniforms, one (1) bulletproof jacket, one (1) beret, one (1) police uniform, black boots, and a carved wooden rifle.
Yabanet said that the suspects have confessed to the crime and that a detailed investigation is ongoing to arrest other suspects at large.
He added that the suspects would be charged in court immediately after the investigation is completed.
