Police Arrest 5 Kidnappers, Recovered Firearms In Kwara

Kwara state Police Command have arrested five men suspected to be kidnappers along Eruku town in Ekiti Local Government Area and Oke-Ode – Share road, of Ifelodun LGA, of Kwara State.

At the same time, two locally made pistols and two handsets were recovered from them.

The first suspects were Babagida Buguda ‘m’ 30yrs Bashiru Yakuba ‘m’ 35yrs, and Mohammed Umaru ‘m’ 26yrs.

It was gathered that One Mr Shina Luke Abiodun of Eruku town and one other while riding on a motorcycle on their way from Egbe in Kogi State were accosted by six armed men at Koro village close to Eruku town.

Luckily the victims escaped the attack and ran to the Anti-Kidnapping patrol team stationed at Eruku town.

Immediately the team moved to the scene, one Techno Phone was recovered. Forensic analysis of the phone by the investigators led to the arrest of the kingpin and two of his gang members in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara state.

The suspects confessed during interrogation to have been responsible for kidnapping operations within Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara States respectively.

While parading the suspects, the commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama, said the police also arrested members of the kidnapping syndicate, one Garuba Abubakar A.K.A. Elero of Lokongoma village and Abubakar Adam of Ile Nam Oke-Ode.

According to him, “One of their victims and his six-year-old son came from Ekiti State to identify and confirmed that they were kidnapped and held captive for six days by the suspects and were released after payment of six million Naira.

“The suspects also confessed to have also killed one Inspector Segun Ayegbulu of the NSCDC attached to Ekiti Command.

The statement read: “On 12/12/2022, intelligence available to the Command indicated that one Abubakar Mohammed ‘m’ 15 yrs old has been kidnapped along Oke-Ode – Share road, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State.

The report prompted the Commissioner of Police to dispatch a team of State Intelligent Bureau (SIB) and conventional Police from the Oke-Ode Division.

“The leader of the gang, Chairman Rabiu ‘m’ who is presently at large is said to be in possession of the gang firearm and always in the custody of all ransom collected as confessed by two arrested suspects. Efforts are on top gear to get him arrested,” the police commissioner added.

They both confessed to have been the collector of the victim’s Five Hundred Thousand Naira ransom.

He, however, said efforts are also ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and recover the remaining firearms in their possession.

The commissioner stated that all the suspects would soon be charged to court.

He reiterated that Kwara State would not be made comfortable for Criminals.

CP Paul Odama warned all criminals to leave the State, as plans are firmly on the ground to make the State hot and uncomfortable for Criminal elements.
