Police Arrest 4 Suspects, Seize N600m Cannabis, 7,500 Cartridges In Kebbi
They had managed to pass through eight security checkpoints along the Nigerian border before eventually being intercepted
The Kebbi State Police Command has intercepted a substantial quantity of Cannabis Sativa (commonly known as Indian hemp), with an estimated value exceeding 600 million Naira (N600m), they seized 7,500 live cartridges in the vicinity of Tsamiya Maje, in the Baguda Local Government Area of the state.
SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the police command, made this known on Thursday, September 15, 2023, and said four persons have been arrested in connection with this significant seizure.
During a press conference held at the Command’s Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, SP Nafiu Abubakar informed the public that officers from the Border Drill division, while on patrol duty, intercepted two trucks, the vehicles were loaded with substantial consignments of Cannabis Sativa, amounting to 4,927 and 4,906 units, respectively, along with 7,500 live cartridges.
Suspects
The suspects are Shola Adeyemi, hailing from Akure in Ondo State; Rasak Agbola, a resident of Oyo State; Emmanuel Chukuma, originating from Abia State; and Kanta Bisa, who is of Ghanaian nationality.
In interviews conducted by Radio Nigeria, Kanta Bisa and Shola Adeyemi, who served as the truck drivers, disclosed that they had loaded the consignments in Ghana and Benin Republic, respectively, with the intent to transport them to Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr Abubakar noted that the investigation is currently ongoing, as some of the suspects are still at large.
