Ilorin, Kwara State– Suspected bandits numbering over 70 on Sunday evening stormed Oke Daaba in the Oro-Ago community of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing two residents and injuring a local vigilante operative during a fierce confrontation.

Afrika Eyes gathered that the heavily armed attackers invaded the community, firing sporadically among residents before local vigilantes mobilised to repel the assault.

A security source from the community confirmed the attack to Afrika Eyes, revealing that two persons lost their lives while a vigilante officer sustained serious gunshot injuries during the encounter with the terrorists.

He was later seen sitting on a hospital bed while receiving treatment for the injuries sustained during the attack.

Residents of Oro-Ago and surrounding communities have expressed growing fear over the increasing frequency of bandit attacks in the Kwara South region, warning that continued inaction could embolden the criminals to advance towards major towns and cities.

Community members called on the state government and security agencies to urgently intervene before the situation escalates further, noting that several communities are gradually being deserted due to persistent insecurity.

They warned that failure to act swiftly could lead to a humanitarian crisis as residents may be forced to abandon their homes entirely in search of safety.

The latest incident adds to mounting concerns over the spread of armed banditry into parts of Kwara State, particularly in Kwara South, where locals say criminal groups now operate with little resistance, leaving rural communities vulnerable to deadly attacks.
