Oyo Police Debunks False Reports On Claimed Release Of Abducted Orire Students, Pupils, Teachers, Says Rescue Operation Still Ongoing 

Ibadan, Oyo State–  The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed widespread reports circulating across social media and some online platforms alleging that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers from Orire Local Government Area have been released, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of undermining ongoing security operations.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Command spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) AYANLADE OLAYINKA, the police authority stressed that the victims are yet to be rescued, contrary to the rumours currently gaining traction online.

According to the Command, intensive efforts are still ongoing by combined security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of all abducted victims and to track down and arrest those responsible for the criminal act.

The statement reads in part:“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act.”

The Command further categorically refuted the viral claims suggesting that the victims had already been rescued, warning members of the public against spreading unverified information that could create panic or disrupt ongoing operations.

“The Command hereby debunks the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, support the ongoing efforts of the joint security team, and verify every piece of information before sharing it,”Olayinka said.

The police authority also cautioned that the spread of fake news and misinformation poses serious operational risks, including unnecessary public panic, heightened tension within affected communities, and diversion of limited security resources required for active field operations.

“The spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for the ongoing operations,” the Command warned.

Reassuring residents of Oyo State, the Command maintained that updates will only be provided through verified channels as the rescue operation progresses, urging members of the public to rely strictly on official communication from the Police Public Relations Office.
