Tragedy struck in Ilorin as a fish farmer identified as Moshood Suleiman, has reportedly been beaten to death following a heated argument that ensued between him and a commercial motorcycle operator popularly called okada rider.

In a grim turn of events, the victim reported to be in his thirties, met his tragic fate after he boarded an Okada, from Unity to Fate road in Ilorin.

According to an eyewitness account, a dispute erupted between the fish vendor and the okada rider over the fare after getting to his destination.

“Initially, they were arguing over the fare and other okada operators who came around started beating him (Suleiman).

“He ran and was pursued only to be ambushed at the front of a filling station in the area until one of his family members who had learnt about the development came to rescue him.”

Oyindamola, the sister of the deceased, shared that Suleiman met his demise at the Ilorin General Hospital, where he had been urgently taken for medical attention.

“Fortunately, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) team happened to be passing through the vicinity at that moment and managed to arrest three of the okada riders involved.”

“Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries at the Ilorin General Hospital. However, our pursuit for justice remains unwavering. We demand that the culprits responsible for this heinous act be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. We refuse to let my brother’s life be lost in vain. Our family is resolute in seeking justice for this grievous incident,” she added.

Ayeni Olasunkanmi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), confirmed the incident and further informed that the police have assumed control of the case.”
