Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspected serial killer, kidnapper, and rapist, identified as Ogunnaike Phillips, in connection to the murder of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya.

Akinsanya was reportedly raped and gruesomely killed with a machete on her father’s farm near the Ogun State Television station in September 2024.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Friday, revealing that Phillips is also a member of the notorious Aye confraternity.

During his confession, Phillips admitted to killing three other young women in a similar manner and burying their bodies in remote areas.

The commissioner and his team were led by Phillips to several locations, including Asero Estate in Abeokuta, Itori in Ewekoro, and Mile 6 along Ajebo Road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

The remains of his victims were recovered from these sites.

In addition to Akinsanya, Phillips confessed to the murders of 22-year-old Abigail Dina and 23-year-old Mary Ogunyemi. All three victims were sexually assaulted and violently murdered before being buried.

The commissioner disclosed that the suspect, along with his accomplice Danjuma, who remains at large, had been luring victims into secluded areas, stealing their phones, demanding ransom from their families, and eventually killing them.

In a conversation with reporters, the suspect called for the death penalty, stating that Danjuma had recruited him into the criminal activities.

“I don’t want the government to help me. Me, Danjuma, and those cult members—when they catch us, if they want to pass judgment, they should just kill us. They’re the ones who got me into these terrible things,” he said.

Commissioner Alamutu expressed concern over the rising number of missing persons and youth-related crime, assuring the public that an investigation was underway to capture the remaining gang members.

He vowed to ensure the suspect faces justice, while grieving families continue to demand accountability for the tragic loss of their loved ones.
