Obasanjor Warns Of Dire Consequences If Federal Government Fails To Address Protesters Demands
He emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns that have sparked widespread youth protests, asserting that these demands are valid.
Abeokuta, Ogun State- Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has once again warned the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, about the potential consequences of ignoring the demands driving the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.
During a visit to his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday, Obasanjo addressed six members of the National Assembly.
He emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns that have sparked widespread youth protests, asserting that these demands are valid.
Obasanjo cautioned that failure to address these issues promptly could lead to severe repercussions.
The six legislators, who are backing a bill proposing a single six-year presidential term with rotational leadership between the North and South, were in attendance at the meeting.
The former President urged the government to take the youth’s grievances seriously, attributing their frustration to poverty, unemployment, and a lack of attention from those in power.
He stressed that the country’s progress relies on a unified effort and a change in mindset.
Obasanjo argued that the focus should be on transforming the mentality of the leaders rather than debating the length of presidential terms.
He suggested that whether Nigeria adopts a single six-year term or retains the current system, effective governance ultimately depends on trust in institutions and leadership.
