NSCDC Nabs Suspected Gun-Runner With Six Firearms, Arrests Alleged Fraudster with $600,000 Fake Dollars In Kano

Preliminary investigations revealed that Uba, a native of Tashene village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was reportedly en route to Kebbi State at the time of his arrest.

Kano State– Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested a suspected gun-runner and an alleged fraudster in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi.

According to the statement, NSCDC operatives on routine patrol along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano intercepted and apprehended a 31-year-old suspect, Suleiman M. Uba, who was allegedly found in possession of six firearms.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Uba, a native of Tashene village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was reportedly en route to Kebbi State at the time of his arrest.

“The arrest followed credible intelligence and proactive patrol operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms and light weapons, as well as preventing criminal activities within Kano State and beyond,” the statement read.

In a related development, NSCDC operatives also arrested a 37-year-old man, Abbas Lawan Garkuwa, at Kwankwasiyya City in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State over alleged involvement in fraud.

The corps said the suspect was found in possession of $600,000 in counterfeit U.S. dollars—estimated at about N900 million—as well as several fetish items allegedly used to deceive unsuspecting members of the public in fraudulent schemes.

The Command’s spokesman stated that investigations into both cases are ongoing and assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.

He added that the Kano State Command, under the leadership of State Commandant Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and tackling crimes ranging from arms trafficking to financial fraud.

The NSCDC further urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community collaboration remains vital in the fight against crime.
