Osogbo, Osun State- Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has arrested four suspects for allegedly raping two minors in the state.

The suspects identified as—Sadiq Opeyemi (30), Afeez Olalekan (26), Ismail Ibrahim (30), and Abdulahi Garba (33)—were apprehended on December 3 in Iwo, located in the Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State.

While parading the suspects in Osogbo on Thursday, the NSCDC Commandant for Osun, Mr. Igbalawole Sotiyo, revealed that the suspects were accused of sexually assaulting two 13-year-old minors.

Sotiyo stated that the suspects lured the girls with N500 and repeatedly exploited them.

The corps commandant revealed that the perpetrators confessed to the crime. He explained that the girls, who were living with their grandparents, fell victim to the suspects’ tactics while trying to survive.

“These minors are living with their grandparents but have not been properly cared for,” Sotiyo noted. “In their search for survival, they were exploited by the four suspects.”

A thorough investigation confirmed the suspects’ involvement in the crime.

“I want to assure the public that the perpetrators will face the full consequences of the law, serving as a deterrent to others with criminal intentions,” he emphasized.

The suspects, when interviewed by the press, admitted to abusing the girls at various times and locations after offering them money.

In a related development, Sotiyo announced that his team had recovered seven pumping machines, a rubber rug, a digger, and other equipment from illegal miners in the Igun-Ijesa area of the state.

He explained that on December 3, his men acted on intelligence regarding illegal mining activities in the area. When they arrived around 1:48 p.m., the miners fled, leaving behind their tools.

“Illegal mining is an economic sabotage, and the NSCDC will continue to fight against such activities,” Sotiyo affirmed.
