Nigerian Soldier Arrested In Borno For Alleged Possession of Illegal Ammunition

Adamu revealed that Sergeant Murtala had supplied him with the ammunition.

Maiduguri, Borno State- Sergeant Saad Adamu, a Nigerian soldier with service number 05NA/56/385, has been apprehended in Borno State for allegedly possessing illegal ammunition.

The soldier was reportedly discovered with 485 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two magazines, which were hidden inside cartons of dry fish.

Sergeant Adamu, stationed at the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, had left his unit in Jos, Plateau State and traveled to Maiduguri without authorization to continue his involvement in gunrunning.

Upon his arrest, Sergeant Adamu admitted to collaborating with Sergeant Dalhatu Murtala (07NA/60/0940), the armourer for the 19 Brigade Garrison. Adamu revealed that Sergeant Murtala had supplied him with the ammunition.

Sergeant Murtala was subsequently apprehended in the Baga Road general area.

A military report detailed that Sergeant Adamu was in possession of 313 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, 172 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two magazines. These items were hidden inside a Bagco super bag, mixed with cucumber and dry fish.
