Ikeja, Lagos State- Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni, the 12-year-old boy who tragically died in 2021 after allegedly being bullied at Dowen College in Lagos, has passed away following a prolonged battle with health issues.

It was gathered that her death occurred in late November.

Her passing comes just over seven months after a Lagos court ruling in April that found against the family.

The Lagos State Coroner Inquest Court, sitting at Ogba Magistrate Court, concluded that Sylvester’s death was caused by negligence on the part of his parents and doctor.

The court determined that Oromoni died from untreated complications related to an enlarged liver.

Sylvester Oromoni died on November 30, 2021, following an incident at Dowen College where he was allegedly bullied and forced to consume a toxic substance.

Meanwhile, prior to his death, he reportedly named five senior students—Favour Benjamin, 16, Edward Begue, 16, Ansel Temile, 14, Kenneth Inyang, and Michael Kashamu, 16, son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu—as his attackers.

However, in January 2022, the Lagos State Government cleared the five students and five school employees who were accused of involvement in Sylvester’s death.

In his ruling, Coroner Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri stated that the child’s health deteriorated due to negligence, noting that his parents failed to seek medical attention for over 32 hours before his death.

He described Sylvester’s death as “avoidable” and lamented the excruciating pain the boy endured.
