Military Rescues Six Students From Zamfara Bandit Attack

The abduction occurred following an incursion by bandits into the Sabon-Gida community within the Bungudu Local Government Area.

Six out of the 24 students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who were abducted in the early hours of this Friday, have been rescued.

Following the incursion of bandits into the Sabon-Gida community within the Bungudu Local Government Area, a reliable military source with close ties to the Commander of the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in Gusau has confirmed this development to Channel Television.

The abduction occurred following an incursion by bandits into the Sabon-Gida community within the Bungudu Local Government Area.

The source disclosed that the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, is presently leading the operation in collaboration with other security agencies within the forest located along the Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Encouragingly, it was also reported that a number of bandits were eliminated during the ongoing operation, and some of their weapons were successfully recovered.

Additionally, an anonymous student from the affected school shared with Channels Television that during the attack, more than 24 of their fellow students, the majority of whom were female, were abducted.

Furthermore, a resident of Sabon-Gida, identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida, verified the incident, recounting that armed gunmen invaded the community around 3 a.m., firing indiscriminately.

He stated that the assailants targeted three student hostels and took away all the students residing within them.

In a related development, the Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the student abductions.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident during a phone conversation on Friday.

However, the exact number of abducted students has not yet been ascertained. ASP Abubakar also affirmed that the rescue operation is currently in progress.
