Abeokuta,  Ogun State– A middle-aged man, identified as Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale, has been found dead in a suspected suicide barely hours after he allegedly stabbed his wife, Ayobami, to death at River Valley Estate, Ogun State.

Ayobami, a mother of three, was reportedly attacked by her husband on Thursday, January 8, following what neighbours described as a heated argument between the couple inside their apartment.

Residents of the estate said they were alerted by loud noises from the couple’s compound and rushed to the scene, where they found Ayobami lying in a pool of blood with deep stab wounds.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, while being taken to the hospital, the victim reportedly asked for water and questioned what offence she had committed to deserve such brutal treatment from her husband.

However, neighbours said she died less than five minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Medical personnel were said to have disclosed that Ayobami was stabbed close to the lungs, which severely affected her breathing.

Residents further alleged that after the attack, Ayanwale returned to the apartment and attempted to clean up bloodstains at the scene.

The brother of the deceased told reporters that Ayobami was stabbed about five times on the chest, breast and back, allegedly in the presence of her three children.

Barely 12 hours after the incident, Ayanwale was found gasping for breath in an open field in the Sotubo area of Ogun State on Friday, January 9. He was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Items reportedly recovered at the scene include a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card and an ATM card.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident had been reported to the command, adding that a detailed statement would be released after preliminary investigations.
