Local Vigilantes Foil Bandits’ Midnight Raid, Rescue Three Kidnap Victims In Kwara Community
The vigilantes reportedly pursued the attackers into the surrounding bush in a daring rescue effort.
Ilorin, Kwara State– Local vigilante operatives in Chitta Community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, have successfully rescued three residents abducted by terrorists suspected to be bandits during a midnight attack on Sunday.
According to information gathered by Afrika Eyes, the incident occurred at about 12:00 a.m. when heavily armed bandits invaded the community, shooting sporadically to scare residents before whisking away three victims.
Sources in the community told Afrika Eyes that the sudden attack threw residents into panic as the assailants moved swiftly through the area while carrying out the abduction.
However, members of the local vigilante group in the community quickly mobilized after receiving distress calls from residents. The vigilantes reportedly pursued the attackers into the surrounding bush in a daring rescue effort.
A community source said the vigilantes confronted the bandits and forced them to abandon the victims during the pursuit.
“The vigilantes acted very fast. Immediately the bandits left with the victims, they mobilized and went after them. Their pressure forced the kidnappers to flee and abandon the three victims,” the source said.
The rescued victims were later returned safely to the community, while the attackers escaped into the forest.
Residents have commended the bravery of the local vigilantes, noting that their swift response prevented what could have turned into a prolonged kidnapping ordeal.
However, the incident adds to growing concerns over the activities of bandits in parts of Kwara North, as residents continue to call on security agencies and the Kwara State Government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable rural communities.
Earlier, Afrika Eyes reported that suspected terrorists believed to be bandits on Saturday night invaded Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State and abducted a housewife alongside her son.
Residents told Afrika Eyes that the armed men stormed the village late in the night, firing sporadically before whisking away their victims to an unknown destination.
The latest incident has created fear among residents of communities in Edu Local Government Area, where cases of kidnapping and banditry have been on the rise in recent months.
Residents have repeatedly called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify security presence in the area to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
