Lagos Police Detain Officer For Allegedly Raping Minor Inside Station

The officer in question had allegedly absconded after the incident but turned himself in on Saturday for questioning.

Ikeja, Lagos State– The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one of its officers who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command in Ogudu area of the state.

The suspect, simply identified as Owolabi, offered to assist the teenager after taking her statement and then later deceitfully tricked her with false information that police operatives had arrested the suspected phone thief.

When the minor arrived at his office, he allegedly raped her at gunpoint.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, July 14, 2024, the spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  said the command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the allegation of defilement levelled against the officer.

The PPRO denied allegations that the police authority was shielding the suspected rapist.

“The Lagos State Police Command has placed under arrest one of its personnel accused of defiling a 17-year old girl,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni has, meanwhile, directed a full-scale and thorough investigation into the allegation.

Hundeyin explained that the officer in question had allegedly absconded after the incident but turned himself in on Saturday for questioning.

“The Command assures the public that there is absolutely no attempt at a cover-up as such hideous acts are at variance with the code of conduct and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

“To this end, CP Fayoade once again assures Nigerians that the officer would be dealt with in accordance with police regulations and the law if found culpable.”
