Kwara United Rewarded With Cash, Land For Federation Cup Triumph Each, As Yahaya Seriki Celebrates Kwara’s Football Success
The event was held to honour the players and celebrate Kwara United’s success, which also secured them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup—the first time the state will feature in a continental football competition in 49 years.
Ilorin, Kwara State- Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced a reward of ₦5 million and a plot of land for each player of Kwara United following the club’s historic victory in the 2025 President Federation Cup.
The Governor made the announcement on Monday during a grand reception hosted by APC chieftain, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki-Gambari, at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin.
The event was held to honour the players and celebrate Kwara United’s success, which also secured them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup—the first time the state will feature in a continental football competition in 49 years.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the players, the management of Kwara United, and the Kwara State Sports Commission for their hard work and resilience.
He also praised the youth teams, particularly the U-19 and U-14 squads under the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), for their impressive performances in recent national events.
He expressed joy over the strong support from Kwarans, many of whom travelled to Lagos to cheer the team during their final match against Abakaliki FC.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki attributed the team’s success to recent investments in sports infrastructure, improved welfare for staff, and Governor AbdulRazaq’s personal commitment to the sports sector.
He also lauded the Governor for attending the final match despite his tight schedule, which he said lifted the team’s morale.
Officials of the Kwara State Sports Commission and Kwara United also paid tribute to the Governor’s unwavering support, which they said was instrumental in the team’s national achievements.
Earlier, Kwara United players paraded the trophy through major streets in Ilorin to the admiration of residents.
The celebration further cemented the team’s place in the state’s sports history.
The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, sports officials, and supporters.
