Kwara To Spend N180Million On Governor Abdulrazaq’s ‘Soundproof’ Generator As Terror Ravages Communities
The revelation comes amid previous reports detailing heavy spending by the Abdulrazaq-led administration on foreign trips and vehicles despite worsening insecurity in the state.
Ilorin, Kwara State– Fresh details from the approved 2026 budget of Kwara State have revealed that the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq allocated a staggering N180 million for the purchase and installation of a generator described as “Sandproof (sic)” for the governor’s residence in Ilorin, even as insecurity continues to escalate across parts of the state.
A review of the official budget document by SaharaReporters shows a line item capturing the “purchase and installation of one Sandproof (sic) 500KVA (Perkins-UK) Engine Generating Set for His Excellency’s Residence in Ilorin.”
The entry, which contains the typographical error “Sandproof” instead of “Soundproof,” has stirred outrage among residents who argue that the massive expenditure on power supply for the governor’s private residence comes at a time when communities are battling violent attacks and displacement.

The revelation comes amid previous reports detailing heavy spending by the Abdulrazaq-led administration on foreign trips and vehicles despite worsening insecurity in the state.
According to the full-year 2025 budget performance document earlier reviewed, the Kwara State Government released a total of N3.2 billion for international travels within the year.
The N3.2 billion figure strictly covered foreign trips outside training classifications, as the review focused solely on travels categorized as international trips in the official budget breakdown.
A breakdown of the expenditure showed that between October and December 2025 — a three-month period — the state reportedly spent N1.8 billion on foreign trips alone.
This translates to an average monthly expenditure of N600 million on international travel during that period. On a weekly basis, the state expended an estimated N50 million on foreign trips within the three months under review.
In addition to travel expenses, the state government also embarked on massive vehicle purchases in 2025.
Between January and September 2025, a total sum of N578 million was spent on the “purchase of 33 No’s Toyota Saloon Cars (Corolla Hybrid)” for public office holders.
For the 2026 fiscal year, another N2.5 billion has been budgeted for vehicle procurement.
Further review of the budget performance document revealed that N1.4 billion was spent on the purchase of motor vehicles for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota High Roof Bus, Toyota Hiace, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Coaster Bus.
An additional N398 million was expended on the “purchase of one land cruiser jeep for Grand Khadi, 2 Hilux CR, DCR and Chief Registered office, Toyota Cruise for 3no DCR and 2no Directors.”
The state government also spent N1.2 billion on the purchase of Toyota Corolla (2025 model) vehicles for Magistrates and Area Court judges.
Altogether, vehicle purchases alone gulped N3.5 billion within nine months.
The latest N180 million budgetary allocation for a 500KVA generating set at the governor’s residence has further intensified scrutiny of the administration’s spending priorities, especially as residents in parts of the state continue to grapple with violent attacks.
Earlier reports detailed how residents of Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State came under attack following an invasion by suspected terrorists.
Afrika Eyes reported that intense gunfire echoed across the community, sending residents fleeing for safety.
The attackers were said to have stormed the area in large numbers, shooting sporadically as they moved through parts of the town, triggering panic and forcing families to abandon their homes.
Residents lamented that while communities struggle with fear, displacement and the threat of recurring attacks, the state government continues to approve large sums for foreign travel, luxury vehicles and now a “soundproof” generator for the governor’s residence.
The development has once again raised questions about fiscal priorities in Kwara State, as citizens demand improved security and protection of lives and property amid growing reports of terrorist incursions into rural communities.
