Kwara South Joint Security Watch Condemns ECWA Church Attack, Demands Proactive Leadership After Ignored Security Warnings

The Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch Kwara South, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, said the incident could have been prevented if authorities had responded promptly to intelligence alerts issued by community security monitors

Ilorin,  Kwara State– Residents of communities in Kwara South Senatorial District have expressed outrage following the recent bandit attack on an ECWA church in Omugo, Oro-Ago community, accusing political leaders of failing to act despite prior security warnings.

The Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch Kwara South, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, said the incident could have been prevented if authorities had responded promptly to intelligence alerts issued by community security monitors.

Speaking on Monday, Elder Oyin-Zubair revealed that the Joint Security Watch had earlier notified security agencies about imminent attacks in three local government areas within Kwara South, but the warnings were allegedly ignored.

According to him, the attack on the ECWA church in Omugo, located in the Oro-Ago community, has left residents devastated and heightened fears of further violence across the region.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent bandit attack on the ECWA Church in Omugo, Oro-Ago community,” Elder Oyin-Zubair said.

He added that the community was deeply frustrated that repeated alerts about possible attacks were not taken seriously by authorities.

“We are outraged and frustrated that despite warnings from Joint Security Watch Kwara South, our leaders failed to act. It’s time for proactive leadership,” he stated.

Elder Oyin-Zubair noted that the Joint Security Watch had specifically alerted relevant security agencies about looming threats in three local government areas in Kwara South but lamented that no decisive preventive action was taken.

He criticised political leaders for issuing condolence messages after the attack while failing to implement concrete security measures that could prevent such tragedies.

“Politicians have sent empathy messages, but we demand action,” he said.

According to him, communities in the region are increasingly vulnerable to attacks and require modern security strategies, including the deployment of technology and stronger collaboration between residents and law enforcement agencies.

“We need technology, vigilance, and collective action to secure our communities,” Elder Oyin-Zubair said.

He called on residents to work closely with security agencies and strengthen local security initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property.

“Join forces with security agencies, support community initiatives, and push for real solutions,” he urged.

“Enough is enough. Show us action, not just statements. Let’s work together to protect Kwara South,” he added.

The attack on the ECWA church in Omugo has intensified calls from residents and local security groups for a more proactive and technology-driven approach to tackling banditry and insecurity in the region.

Community leaders warn that without urgent intervention, more communities in Kwara South could face similar threats.

Afrika Eyes had earlier reported that security agencies in Kwara State have been placed on high alert following intelligence indicating that suspected terrorists are planning coordinated attacks on three local government areas in the Kwara South Senatorial District.

The planned attacks are believed to target Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin Local Government Areas of the state, with the suspected terrorists reportedly preparing to strike simultaneously on March 23 and March 28, 2026.
