Kwara Govt Takes Over Case Against ‘Cleric’ Accused Of Killing, Dismembering Final-Year Student
Meanwhile, as Bello left the courtroom, he pleaded for the release of his co-accused, claiming sole responsibility for the crime
Ilorin, Kwara State – The Kwara State Ministry of Justice has officially taken over the prosecution of Abdulrahman Bello, a self-acclaimed Islamic cleric accused of murdering and dismembering Yetunde Lawal Hafsoh, a final-year student at the State College of Education.
During a court session on Thursday, Barrister Issa Zakare, representing the Ministry, informed the magistrate that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had issued legal advice confirming a case against Bello, who is to be properly arraigned at the High Court.
Counsel for the victim’s family, Dr. Folorunso Ahmad Hussein, did not oppose the ministry’s application but urged the court to ensure justice for the deceased.
Presiding Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad adjourned the case to March 20 and ordered the suspect’s remand at Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin pending arraignment at the High Court.
Speaking after the session, Dr. Hussein confirmed that the magistrate court’s case would be terminated once the suspect appears at the High Court, where the proper charges have been filed.
He also called for the enforcement of capital punishment, urging state governors to sign death warrants for convicted offenders.
Meanwhile, as Bello left the courtroom, he pleaded for the release of his co-accused, claiming sole responsibility for the crime.
However, the court advised him to present his plea before the High Court.
