Kwara Govt Subsidizes BECE 2024 Fees For 55,150 Candidates, Warn Officials Against Extortion

The subsidies will be enjoyed by all the candidates that will sit for this year 2024 BECE .

Ilorin, Kwara State– Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has approved the subsidization of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) expenses for public school students across the state.

A total of 55,150 candidates are set to benefit from this initiative, with a fixed examination fee of N2,500, maintaining the same amount as the previous year.

In a statement released by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development MOEHCD, Peter Amogbonjaye, on Monday, January 22, 2024.

He said that the decision comes as a relief, considering the anticipated increase in fees due to inflation and the rising cost of conducting the examination.

The  statement added that  all candidates in public schools will pay N2,500 only, the same amount charged last year — instead of N5,000 or more which it was meant to be reviewed to owing to inflation and rising cost of conducting the examination.

“The subsidy is part of the efforts of the administration to support the students and their parents, as well as avoid any student dropping out of school on account of the inability to afford the examination.

He said the subsidies will be enjoyed by all the candidates that will sit for this year 2024 BECE .

However,  public officials are warned against extorting money from parents under any guises, saying that anyone caught will face the consequences of such an action.
