Kwara Government Shuts Two Ilorin Schools Over Student Violence

The schools have witnessed repeated clashes among students, resulting in vandalism of school property and disruption of academic activities.

Ilorin,  Kwara State– The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, following a series of violent student unrests.

The shutdown was announced on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who said the measure was taken to restore order and safeguard the lives of students and staff.

According to reports, the schools have witnessed repeated clashes among students, resulting in vandalism of school property and disruption of academic activities.

Dr. Olohungbebe noted that while the schools will remain closed until further notice, students currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) will be allowed entry to complete their exams.

He disclosed that only students with valid school ID cards would be granted access.

The commissioner also appealed to parents and guardians to keep their children at home and warned that any student found flouting the directive would face arrest by security personnel.
