Kwara APC Stakeholder Urges AbdulRazaq To Set Up Reconciliation Committee, Cites Oyo APC Model Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Ilorin, Kwara State —A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State and member of the OTOGE movement, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, has called on Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq and the leadership of the party in the state to urgently inaugurate a broad-based reconciliation committee within seven days to address growing internal grievances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 6, 2026, Elder Oyin-Zubair said the recent inauguration of a 14-member Reconciliation Committee by the Oyo State chapter of the APC should serve as a model for Kwara APC as preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.

According to him, the Oyo APC leadership demonstrated proactive leadership by constituting a committee aimed at fostering unity and ensuring electoral success for the party in the 2027 elections.

The Oyo APC Reconciliation Committee is co-chaired by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja and includes former state chairmen, party elders, women leaders and other key stakeholders across different tendencies within the party.

Members of the committee include Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (Co-Chairman), Prof. Taoheed Adedoja (Co-Chairman), Chief Akin Oke, Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi, Chief Kunmi Mustapha, Senator Gbenga Ariyibi, Hon. Akeem Ige, Hon. Segun Adegoke, Hon. Wasiu Dauda, Chief Mrs. Yetunde Ojo, Hon. Ade Adebisi, Alhaji Kazeem Alogba, Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN), and Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje.

Describing the development in Oyo as an example of “what proactive leadership looks like,” Elder Oyin-Zubair expressed concern that the Kwara APC has yet to establish a similar mechanism despite what he described as mounting discontent among party stakeholders.

He argued that the challenges confronting the Kwara APC extend beyond the governorship race and affect virtually all major elective positions in the state.

“The crisis in Kwara APC is not limited to the gubernatorial primaries alone. It cuts across all major elective offices — Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly.”

The APC stakeholder identified what he described as several warning signs threatening party cohesion in Kwara State.

According to him, there is currently no functional reconciliation mechanism to address grievances across different interest groups within the party.

“With less than a year to the 2027 elections, no inclusive committee has been inaugurated to address grievances across all levels,” he stated.

He also stated that ward and local government party structures have become largely inactive, while many members of the OTOGE movement and loyal party supporters feel excluded from opportunities relating to federal and state elective positions.

The statement further claimed that several agreements and promises made to stakeholders have not been fulfilled.

“Key promises made to stakeholders across all elective positions remain unattended to,” Elder Oyin-Zubair said.

He also criticised attempts to suppress internal dialogue, citing efforts to frustrate a planned G15 Solidarity Rally rather than engage with its organisers.

The stakeholder warned that continued delay in addressing internal disputes could have serious consequences for the party.

“Our fear is that further delay is a deliberate strategy to buy time until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for party primaries and nominations is activated. This will be used to sideline stakeholders and perfect a lopsided process across all major elective offices,” he said.

However, he called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whom he described as the leader of the APC in Kwara State, alongside the state party leadership, to immediately establish a Kwara APC Reconciliation and Unity Committee with representation from all tendencies within the party.

“We therefore call on His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Executive Governor of Kwara State and Leader of Kwara APC, and the Kwara State APC leadership to urgently inaugurate a Kwara APC Reconciliation and Unity Committee within seven days, with full representation across all tendencies, just as Oyo has done.”

Elder Oyin-Zubair also proposed a timeline for the committee’s work.

According to him, the committee should be inaugurated on or before July 13, 2026, complete ward-to-state stakeholder consultations by July 31, 2026, and submit its final report for implementation by August 15, 2026.

He further urged the party leadership to reactivate all party organs before INEC releases the official timetable for the 2027 elections.

The statement outlined specific responsibilities for the proposed committee, including bringing all stakeholders together in the spirit of the OTOGE movement, reviewing and implementing previous agreements on fairness and inclusion, reviving party structures from ward to state levels, and strengthening party unity ahead of the next general election.

“The Committee should be tasked to bring all stakeholders and tendencies back to one table in the spirit of OTOGE, review and implement past agreements on fairness and inclusion across all major elective positions, revive the party structure from ward to state level, and unite the party to deliver Kwara State for APC and President Tinubu in 2027,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the APC stakeholder said the blueprint for party reconciliation already exists and should be adopted without delay.

“Oyo has shown us the blueprint. With less than a year to the 2027 elections, the time for announcements is over. The time for action is now,” he said.

He added, “Leadership is about preventing crisis, not managing it after it erupts. We will not accept excuses after INEC deadlines.”

Elder Oyin-Zubair maintained that his intervention was motivated by a desire to preserve party unity and ensure electoral success for the APC in the state.

“We remain committed to the unity, progress and victory of our great party,” he said.
