Kebbi Assembly Speaker Muhammad Usman Ankwai Dies In Egypt
Ankwai died on Monday evening while receiving treatment at a hospital in the Egyptian capital, where he had been admitted over an undisclosed ailment.
Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State– The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Ankwai, has reportedly passed away in Cairo, Egypt after a brief illness.
Ankwai died on Monday evening while receiving treatment at a hospital in the Egyptian capital, where he had been admitted over an undisclosed ailment.
The news of his death was confirmed in a statement issued by Murtala Diri, an official of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
Diri, in the statement shared on his official Facebook page, described the late Speaker’s death as a significant loss to the state and his constituents.
Ankwai represented the Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly and was regarded as a prominent political figure within the Zuru Emirate.
He was elected Speaker of the 10th Kebbi State Assembly on June 8, 2023, following the inauguration of the current legislative session.
The Kebbi State Government and the family of the deceased are expected to announce burial arrangements and further details of official condolences in due course.
The statement read, “Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru), has passed away. He died in the early evening of Monday, 6th April, 2026 while receiving medical treatment in Cairo, Egypt.
“The late speaker, representing Zuru Constituency was a prominent political figure from Zuru emirate, served as the Speaker of the Kebbi State 10th Assembly. His death is a significant loss to his constituents, the state’s legislative body, the political community, as well as the state and the country in general.
“Further details regarding his burial arrangements and official condolences are expected to be announced by the Kebbi State Government and his family in due course.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.Allah ya yafe maka kura-kuran ka, ya saka maka da Jannatul Firdausi speaker,” he added.
