Kagoro Massacre: Bandits Killed Two Soldiers, 32 Others, Burnt 200 Houses

No fewer than  34 people, including two military officers, were killed on Sunday when bandits attacked Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area.

The government said seven person who sustained injuries during the attacks had been receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospitals.

In a statement issued in Kaduna, by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident.

“Security agencies have reported to the Kaduna State government that after search operations and detailed checks, 34 people have been confirmed dead following Sunday’s attack in Kaura Local Government Area.

“Two military personnel were among the 34 killed, with local residents making up 32 casualties,” he said.

The commissioner said the bandits attacked four locations, namely, Tsonje, Agban, Katanga, and Kadarko, all within Kagoro Chiefdom of Kaura LGA.

“Seven people were injured and are receiving treatment,” he said.

Stating that a female from the Adan community was missing, Mr. Aruwan noted that more than 200 houses and 32 shops were burnt in the attack.

He added that three vehicles and 17 motorcycles were vandalized.

“The Kaduna State Government enjoins all residents to carefully observe the 24-hour curfew in force in the area,” he said.

Mr Aruwan said that security reports revealed that criminals took advantage of the chaos to wreak havoc.

“A bus was attacked by a mob in Agban and the conductor was killed. Similarly, some places of worship were torched as tension rose in Kafanchan.”

He, however, appealed to residents to observe the 24-hour curfew earlier declared. Curfew was declared on security agencies’ advice to prevent the escalation of violence.
