Ilorin,  Kwara State- The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kwara State Chapter, has issued a seven-day strike notice to the state government over the non-implementation of the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS).

In a letter dated Monday, August 18, 2025, and addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the union expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as prolonged neglect of judiciary workers’ welfare in the state.

The letter, signed by the state chairman, Habeer A. Yusuf, noted that despite several correspondences with the governor’s office — including one acknowledged on May 30, 2025, and a reminder sent on July 8, 2025 — the government has failed to address their concerns.

JUSUN accused the state government of denying judiciary workers their legitimate entitlements, thereby undermining judicial autonomy and independence.

Yusuf said it is unacceptable that the government continues to deny them the rightful autonomy that should guarantee the independence of the judiciary and allow it to function without external interference.

The union warned that if the government fails to implement CONJUSS within seven days, its members will commence an indefinite strike from Monday, August 25, 2025. Such action, it stressed, would cripple judicial activities across the state.

The statement read, “We write to formally communicate the resolutions reached by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kwara State Chapter, following a series of engagements with the leadership of Kwara State Judiciary over the past couple of months regarding the implementation of the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS).

“Despite our efforts and the letters forwarded to Your Excellency’s office, including the one acknowledged on Friday, 30th May 2025, and a reminder sent on Tuesday 8th July 2025, we regret that our concerns remain unaddressed.

“The ongoing neglect of judiciary workers’ welfare in Kwara State can no longer be tolerated. It is unacceptable that the government continues to deny us the rightful autonomy that should ensure the independence of the judiciary and allow us to function without external interference.

“In response to this urgent situation, the Union has made the firm decision to issue a 7-day strike notice, effective Monday, August 25th, 2025. We are ready to take a stand for our rights and demand the respect and support that all judiciary workers deserve.

“The Union firmly demands the immediate implementation of the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS) for Judiciary workers in Kwara State. If the government does not comply with this demand within the next 7 days, we are ready to initiate an indefinite strike action from Monday, August 25th, 2025. This will result in major disruptions in judicial proceedings and severely impact the overall functioning of the legal system in the state. We will not back down until our demands are met,” Yusuf added.
