Gunmen Kidnap Over 20 Medical Students In Benue

Makurdi, Benue State- More than 20 medical and dental students, along with a house officer, have been kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State.

The group was en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when they were ambushed around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area.

It was gathered that the the victims are from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos.

Meanwhile, the Benue police Command’s spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the abduction, stated that an investigation is going on..

“No official ransom demand or conditions for their release have been made yet,” Anene said.

Kidnapping has become increasingly common in Benue and other regions of Nigeria, instilling fear and insecurity within communities.

In a recent incidents include the kidnapping of two female students from Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture in May, and three staff members, including Dr. Emmanuel Barki, in July.

In March, ten people were kidnapped at the Taraba/Benue border community in Jootar.
