Gunmen Abduct Community Doctor, Wife In Kogi Midnight Raid As Insecurity Deepens

Lokoja, Kogi State– Suspected kidnappers have abducted a community health worker, identified as Dr Ebi, popularly known as Omo Kemuna, alongside his wife in the Okebukun area of Iluke community in the Bunu district of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident occurred around 1:00am on Thursday in the Okebukun area of Iluke, located in the Bunu district of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, as gunmen reportedly stormed the community, firing sporadically and sending terrified residents fleeing for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who were heavily armed, whisked the doctor and his wife away on motorcycles to an undisclosed location after the operation.
Daily Trusr quoting a youth leader in the community, identified as Samuel, described the attack as coordinated and terrifying, noting that the gunmen shot repeatedly to create panic before escaping.
“They carried the doctor and his wife on motorcycles. Dr. Ebi owns a clinic in Oferre, a settlement in Iluke community. Immediately they captured them, they shot sporadically and escaped to an unknown destination,” he said.
The abduction has heightened fear across Iluke and neighbouring communities, with residents warning that kidnappers have continued to operate unchecked in the area.
Samuel added that the latest incident has further unsettled nearby communities in Mopamuro and Ijumu local government areas, where residents now live in constant fear of attacks.
Locals recounted a series of similar incidents in recent months, pointing to what they described as a worsening security situation. On May 4, 2026, gunmen reportedly attacked commuters along the Iluke-Oferre road, abducting several passengers.
In another incident on April 16, 2026, suspected kidnappers abducted two wives and two children of the paramount ruler of Odai settlement within the same community, allegedly demanding a ransom of N150 million.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a commercial driver identified as Jacob was also kidnapped after unknowingly driving into a barricade mounted by gunmen along the same route.
Efforts to get a response from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson, ASP Saliu Afuzat Oyiza, said she would provide details after making inquiries but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
