Gunmen Abduct 25 School Girls In Kebbi, Kill Staffer

Birni Kebbi, Kebbi State — At least 25 students were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, after armed bandits stormed the school in the early hours of Monday.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi.
Accordi g to the statement, the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked the school around 4:00 a.m., engaging police personnel on duty in a fierce gun duel.
However, despite the resistance, the assailants scaled the school’s perimeter fence and forcibly took the students from their hostel.
The deceased staff member has been identified as Hassan Makuku, while Ali Shehu sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand and is receiving treatment.
In response to the attack, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Muhammad Sani, has deployed additional police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilante groups to the area.
The security forces are currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the abducted students and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The police commissioner urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Authorities have warned that the operation may take time due to the complex terrain and mobility of the bandits, but remain determined to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students.
