Group Celebrate International Day of Education, Says Every Child Must Be Educated

As the world celebrates’ The International Day of Education today, Tuesday, January 24, A group Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), says education is a public responsibility, and every child must be educated.

According to BBYDI, over 244 million children and youth are out of school globally today. These figures are disturbing.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “to invest in people, and prioritize education”. It is a rallying call on governments, key stakeholders, civil societies, and the international community to stand by their commitments to prioritize investment in education and educational transformation. As we get closer to the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, investment in education is crucial to its success.

BBYDI Executive Director Nurah Jimoh-Sanni says, “Our goal is to ensure every child has access to quality education by engaging government and relevant stakeholders on their responsibilities. This year’s International Day for Education is another opportunity for us to advance these conversations”.

“In the last ten years, we have committed to supporting educational initiatives such as our annual event, “TeensSpeakOut”, where we bring students from various schools together to contribute to ongoing conversations around governance, national development, and community service. This has helped us provide the right platform for teenagers to express themselves and understand the importance of education.

“We have published policy documents on education, specifically girl-child education, based on our research across different local governments in Kwara State. These reports highlight factors affecting access to quality education and possible solutions that key stakeholders can leverage to improve the status quo.

He, however, implores all stakeholders to prioritize investment in education as we work towards achieving sustainable development in 2030.
