Maiduguri, Borno State —Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has mandated the immediate closure of all schools across the state.

It was gathered that the decisive action is aimed at safeguarding students and staff as severe flooding continues to devastate local communities.

In a statement released on Monday evening, Engr. Lawal Wakilbe, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Innovations, announced a two-week closure of all primary and secondary schools.

He said the decision was made to allow floodwaters to recede.

The directive came after consultations with the state’s flood committee, which was set up to manage and address the emergency.

Wakilbe stressed that ensuring the safety of students and staff was the primary concern and that the closure was a precautionary measure.

The flooding has severely impacted numerous communities across nearly all local government areas, with Maiduguri, Jere, and surrounding regions being particularly affected.
