Governor Makinde Presents Staff Of Office To New Alaafin Of Oyo
The new monarch succeeds Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who reigned for 51 years before passing away in 2022.
Ibadan, Oyo State – Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday, presented the staff and certificate of office to Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade, marking his ascension as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The ceremony, held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, symbolised the official recognition of Oba Owoade’s reign as the custodian of the rich history and culture of the Oyo Kingdom.
Governor Makinde, while presenting the insignias, explained the importance of the Alaafin’s role in upholding the unity and traditions of the kingdom.
He expressed confidence in Oba Owoade’s ability to lead with wisdom and integrity.
“The Alaafin of Oyo is not just a traditional ruler but a beacon of our history. I am optimistic that Oba Owoade will serve with dedication to the development of the kingdom,” Makinde stated.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Owoade expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo for their support and pledged to prioritise the welfare of his subjects and the progress of the kingdom.
