Gov. Otu Suspends Esuk Utan Village Head, Council Over Misconduct
The statement cited multiple petitions received by the government, accusing the traditional ruler and his council of misusing their authority.
Calabar, Cross River State– Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has ordered the immediate suspension of Chief Okon Archibong, the Village Head of Esuk Utan, along with his council members, over allegations of misconduct and abuse of power.
The suspension, was made known on Monday in Calabar, through a statement signed by Mr. Nsa Gil, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
The statement cited multiple petitions received by the government, accusing the traditional ruler and his council of misusing their authority.
The governor directed the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council to look into the allegations against the village head and his council and provide recommendations.
“Report on findings and recommendations should be sent to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs within one week.
“The Obutong Clan Council is mandated to set up a five-man committee to manage the affairs of Esuk Utan Village pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Governor Otu called on members of the public living or operating businesses in Esuk Utan to go about their normal activities and cease all dealings with the suspended village head and his council.
