Foreigner Impersonating Soldier Arrested In Bauchi Forest During Security Patrol
The suspect was apprehended in the Yankari Game Reserve
Bauchi State– A 28-year-old foreign national, Jibrin Ali from Zandar in Niger Republic, has been arrested in Bauchi State for impersonating a military officer.
The suspect was apprehended in the Yankari Game Reserve, located in the Alkeleri Local Government Area, during a routine patrol conducted by detectives from the Alkeleri Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with local security operatives.
In a statement released on Friday, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed that Ali was found dressed as a soldier and exhibiting suspicious behaviour in an area notorious for bandit activities.
“Jibrin was found impersonating military personnel and displaying suspicious behaviour in an area known for bandit activity, and his arrest was met with resistance,” Wakil stated.
He added that upon interrogation, the suspect was unable to give a credible reason for his presence in the forest, raising further suspicion of possible ties to criminal groups operating in the area.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been directed by the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, to carry out a full investigation.
In a separate operation the same day, Bauchi police intercepted a trailer carrying over one thousand bags of diverted iodized salt, each weighing 25 kilograms and valued at more than N10 million.
Two suspects, Sadik Jidda and Ibrahim Ahmad, were arrested, while the truck driver fled and remains at large.
Commissioner Aliyu commended the swift actions of the officers involved in both operations and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activity across the state.
